How to Use Scamtinel

1. The Browser Extension (Free)

The Scamtinel Chrome extension is the core of our protection. Simply install it on the computers used by your family members (children, elderly parents, etc.).

• Automatic Protection: Once installed, it silently monitors websites against our global threat database and automatically blocks known scams and malicious sites.
• Access Requests: If a safe site is mistakenly blocked, the user will see a warning page. From there, they can click a button to send an "Access Request" directly to the family administrator.
• No Account Needed: For basic standalone protection, no account or pairing is required.

2. The Mobile App (Premium)

To unlock family management features like approving/denying access requests and managing a shared whitelist, the administrator needs the Scamtinel Mobile App (available on iOS and Android). This requires a premium subscription.

Setting up Family Management

1. Create a Family: Launch the mobile app, subscribe to Premium, and you will automatically become the Family Owner.
2. Generate a Pairing Code: In the mobile app, tap "Add Member" to generate a secure, temporary 6-digit pairing code.
3. Pair the Extension: On the family member's computer, click the Scamtinel extension icon in the Chrome toolbar. Enter the 6-digit code.
4. You're Connected: The extension is now linked to your family. Any blocked sites encountered on that computer will send a push notification to your phone.

3. Managing Access

As the family Owner, your mobile app acts as the command center.

• Approving Requests: When you receive a push notification about a blocked site, tap it, review the domain, and tap "Approve". Within seconds, the site will be unblocked on the family member's computer.
• Managing the Whitelist: Approved sites are added to your Family Whitelist. You can view and remove these sites from the "Websites" tab in the mobile app. Removing a site instantly restores the block for all family members.
